Ecomnets readies secure data storage center – GoDanRiver.com

Data centers are rated at security phases from one to three, with three being the most secure. Wright said phase one had been achieved and phase two is due for an inspection the beginning of August.

Wright said the state has a shortage of data centers, and Northern Virginia is so overloaded with data transmissions it would be faster for companies in the northern part of the state to store data here because of the Mid-Atlantic Broadband network.“We can move data to and from DC faster than companies in the corridor,” Wright said.

How to make storage techs even more confusing – TechTarget

There’s a lot happening techwise in the data storage world, but the ever-growing hype, hoopla and hazy language are making it even harder for everyone to understand.

This might be the busiest time we’ve ever seen for data storage since the emergence of the hard disk more than 50 years ago. I’ve been on the storage beat exclusively for the last eight or nine years, covering it intermittently before that, and I can’t remember when there’s been more activity in the storage arena on so many different fronts. It’s an interesting brew, cooked up with a healthy portion of new technology, some reconstructed ideas about IT and business processes, and spiced up with the typical overselling and hype that accompany these kinds of technical shifts.

Oracle buys Xsigo Systems for big-data cloud technology – InternetRetailer.com

Xsigo specializes in providing “network virtualization” technology, which enables clients to access additional computing and data storage available in Internet server farms, often referred to as cloud technology. Xsigo software enables users to expand the capabilities of a single server by connecting with computing and data storage capacity from multiple cloud-based servers simultaneously as needed, providing what data experts say can be an extremely efficient way to increase computing power and data storage.

“This helps Oracle serve large data-intensive markets better,” says Richard Fichera, a technology analyst at Forrester Research Inc.

The State of Data Storage Management: 2011 vs. 2012 – DABCC.com

Data storage management meant dealing with requests formore space because of more data used by more applications. Storage admins responded by focusing on centralization and consolidation, as the InformationWeek Report “2011 State of Storage” found. That’s changed, however.

According to “State of Storage 2012,” demand is stabilizing. The January survey of 313 IT professionals found that almost the same amount of storage is under active management as in November 2010. The data growth rate is slowing, as well–76% of respondents reported rates of just 24% or less.

Virtualization of Datacenters: New Options in the Control and Data Planes ... - Data Center Knowledge

The Data Deluge occurring in today’s content-rich Internet, cloud and enterprise applications is growing the volume, velocity and variety of information data centers must now process. In response, organizations have begun virtualizing their data centers to become more cost-effective, power-efficient, scalable and agile. The migration began with server virtualization using technologies like multi-core CPUs and multi-thread operating systems. Next was the virtualization of storage area networks (SANs) and network attached storage (NAS) to cope with the Data Deluge more efficiently and cost-effectively.
